Tots volem el millor per a ella (We all want what's best for her)
A film by Mar Coll.
Thursday, 21th May 2015, 2.30pm
One year after suffering a horrible traffic accident, Geni is ready to resume her life… or at least that's what her family wants to see. The truth is that despite trying to please everyone, Geni feels unable to live up to expectations: her life before the accident no longer interests her. Why resume it then? The confusion that this creates causes her behaviour to become increasingly more erratic and leads to a single idea that begins to grow within her: escape.
A follow-up to her award-winning debut from one-to-watch Catalan director Mar Coll, one of a lengthening list of successes to emerge from the Catalan Film School. “Happiness is in the small things” states a billboard ad for pain killers in We All Want the Best for Her, and much the same is true of the film itself. A well-observed, fastidiously-made take on a middle class woman’s struggle to find her place in the world. (The Hollywood Reporter)
The film received eight nominations and three awards.

La plaga (The Plague)
Raul, a farmer that tries to grow organic
food, hires Iurie to help him in the fields. Iurie is a Moldavian wrestling
fighter, but in order to earn a living he has to work in whatever it comes.
Slowly, their personal histories intertwine with those of three solitary women:
Maria, an elder that has to leave the country house where she has always lived
to join a retirement home; Rose, a nurse from Philippines who just arrived into
the country; and Maribel, a prostitute that has less and less clients. The
destinies of all these characters become entwined as the summer goes on.
The Plague is a film of intertwining stories that offers a
moving portrait of life in the outskirts of Barcelona. The main characters are
not actors. They play as themselves after four years of working with the
director. This long process has permitted Ballús to reveal the uncertainty and
the rebel spirit that underlies contemporary crisis-hit Spain.
The producer and co-writer Pau Subirós will be with us to discuss the
film after the screening.

Actors: Aina Clotet, Clàudia Pons, Hans Richter, Lydia Zimmermann, Ramon Madaula, Jordi Gràcia.
SYNOPSIS:
Elisa is almost eleven, but her contented world shifts overnight when a friend of her father's makes her cry and promises her a bracelet if she stops. No one knows what has happened; only that Elisa is not her normal self: her grades suffer and her confidence plummets. But it takes fourteen years, four months and a few days before what really happened comes back to haunt Elisa.
Clàudia Pons and Aina Clotet are both hugely impressive as the child and adult Elisa while Cadena and Colell - co-directing for the first time - inflect Bosch's novel through a discerning but empathetic poetic eye.
You are all invited!

ÀNGELS AYMAR I MONTSERRAT ROSER- EL DOCTOR TRUETA
Thursday 25th of November 2010, University of Birmingham.
A fascinating talk on the play Trueta was given by its director and
writer ÀNGELS AYMAR i RAGOLTA and its translator DR
MONTSERRAT ROSER i PUIG. The play is inspired by the life of the
distinguished Catalan surgeon Doctor Josep Trueta, whose Nobel Prize
nomination was supported by the University of Birmingham.
