The
Canadian poet and translator Erín Moure will be visiting our University next
26th of February.
Erín Moure is one of Canada’s most acclaimed poets. Her
multilingual poetry is vivid and powerful, and her last work, "The
Unmemntioable", is another gifted example of her unconventional form and
style of writing. Moreover, Moure is an experienced translator of poetry from
Galician, French, Spanish and Portuguese to English. As for Galician, she has
formed a long-term collaboration with the eminent Galician poet Chus Pato and
translated several of her works into English.
The Centre for Galician Studies, the Regional Centre for Canadian Studies and the School of English, Drama and American & Canadian Studies are pleased to invite you to participate in the two activities that we will be organizing during her visit:
- Seminar on translation and transmission across cultures: Erín Moure will be presenting her work as a translator. In particular, she will be explaining her poet-translator collaboration with the Galician writer Chus Pato and the transatlantic relation between the cultures of Galicia and Canada. Moreover, she will be talking about the challenges of translating across borders, nations and languages, as well as those of the publication and distribution of translated works.
