Every May 17 in Galicia we celebrate the Día das Letras
Galegas (Galician Literature Day) in celebration of Galician language and
literature.
This year the Día das Letras Galegas is dedicated to Roberto Vidal Bolaño (1950-2002),
a key figure of Galician literature and theatre. He was a gifted playwright in
Galician, but also worked as an actor, director, illuminator, stage designer...
All in all, he was one of the main driving forces of the professionalization of
theatre in Galicia.
The Galician film chosen for this year’s Basque, Catalan and
Galician Cinema Season is based on his renowned theatre play Doentes.
