The Centre for Galician Studies of the University of Birmingham is
pleased to invite you to an interactive talk on animation with the Galician filmmaker and animator Peque
Varela. During this event we will watch a selection of her short films and
then create a dialogue through which Peque will help us to discover all about the
creative process and the thought-provoking topics addressed in her
works.
Peque Varela is a London based Galician filmmaker who graduated from the National Film and Television School in Animation Direction. Her graduation film, “1977”, has been awarded all around the world and has participated in the official competitions of prestigious festivals such as Sundance Film Festival and Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival.
In 2009 Peque and the Argentinian producer Silvina Cornillón founded the production company Argallando, which is devoted to create independent projects. Their first film, "Gato Encerrado", was awarded the 2010 Mestre Mateo to the Best Animated Shortfilm by the Galician Audiovisual Academy.
As well as making independent short films Peque works in advertisement as a freelance animator and compositor.
